Couture Spring 2016 Top 5

Haute Couture - the highest from of dressmaking and always a treat for the eyes.

Probably noone of us will ever wear, much less ever own a couture piece, but to dream of one is still possible.

On the throne this year is once again 'old master' Elie Saab for me with his indian princesses. Especially because he rejected to use all colours, except for royal-blue, the gowns appear even more noble and precious. At the top of the podium are also Zuhair Murad and Georges Hobeika, whose opulently embroided Barbiedresses go in a more colourful direction. Similar, but even more over-the-top, which is down my alley, are George Chakra's designs. Fun fact: All four designes are libanese.

When I think of Haute Couture, Ralph and Russo, the only british designers in the couture-league, are absolutely not on my radar. Their collection contains some silhouettes, which are known from the 20s and 50s and which I can perfectly imagine on the Oscar's red carpet.

Haute Couture - die höchste Form der Schneiderkunst und für mich immer wieder ein Augenschmaus.

Wahrscheinlich wird keiner von uns je in den Geschmack davon kommen, ein Couturekleid zu tragen, geschweige denn zu Besitzen, aber zu träumen, wird ja wohl noch erlaubt sein. ;) 

Auf dem Tron der diesjährigen Schauen sitzt für mich mal wieder Elie Saab mit seinen indischen Prinzessinen. Vorallem da er auf Farben bis auf Royalblau verzichtete, wirken die Roben dadurch noch edler. Ganz oben auf dem Treppchen sind für mich auch Zuhair Murad und Georges Hobeika, deren üppig bestickte Barbiekleider in eine ganz farbenfroherer Richtung gehen. Ähnlich, aber noch ein wenig mehr over-the-top, was ganz meinem Geschmack entspricht, sind die Entwürfe von Georges Chakra. Fun Fact: Alle vier Designer sind Libanesen.

Garnicht auf dem Schirm habe ich, wenn ich an Haute Couture denke, Ralph und Russo, die einzigen britischen Designer in der Couture Liga. Deren Stücke beinhalten einige Silhouetten, die man aus den 20ern und 50ern kennt und die ich mir perfekt auf dem Oscar Red Carpet vorstellen kann.

Milan Day 3 - The journey is the destination

To discover the spirit of a city, sometimes it's useful to just stroll around without a specific destination. Unfortunatelly on most of my city trips, I don't follow my own advice, because I always have the fear of missing out on something. 

On day 3 we once again started in the afternoon. Even though we wanted to visit the Milan Cathedral that day, which we admired from the outside the evening before, we got off the tram some stops earlier to catch some sunlight. And I can already reveal, that we didn't make it to the cathedral, but found the Colonne and the Basilica di San Lorenzo in a side road.

Um den Spirit einer Stadt zu entdecken, ist es manchmal sinnvoll, ohne Ziel durch die Strassen zu wandern. Leider mache ich das auf meinen Städtetrips aber viel zu selten, weil ich in der kurzen Zeit so viel sehen möchte wie möglich und ich sonst denke, ich hätte etwas verpasst. 

An Tag 3 sind wir wieder erst nachmittags losgegangen. Obwohl wir ein Ziel hatten, nämlich dem Mailänder Dom, den wir ja am Tag zuvor bereits von aussen bewundert haben, sind wir einige Haltestellen früher ausgestiegen, um durch den schönen Sonnenschein zu spazieren. Um es schonmal vorweg zu nehmen: Aus demBesuch im Dom wurde an dem Tag leider nichts! Dafür haben wir aber die Colonne und die Basilika di San Lorenzo an einer Abzweigung entdeckt.

Milan - Outfit of the Day-3

If you follow me since my trip to Antwerp, you may have noticed, that I wore that camel jacket again. I think, if you just travel with carry-on luggage, it's important to pick pieces, that work with every item, so that you are able to create a coherent outfit from head to toe. Therefore classic pieces in monochromatic colours are your perfect companion. And like the day before, I wore my favorite black jeans from Primark, which I cut open by myself. The material is so stretchy, so they are as comfortable as leggings. I would definitely wear them even on a long flight. Another favorite piece of mine are the sneakers from Reebok I found a whiiiileee ago at Tk Maxx. I always take them on trips with me, because I know, I can walk miles in them and never get blisters.

The Simpsons-tshirt and the sunglasses are also from Primark and that feather-earpiece is from H&M.

Falls du mir schon seit meinem Trip nach Antwerpen folgst, ist dir vielleicht aufgefallen, dass ich wieder meine liebste camelfarbene Jacke mit nach Mailand genommen habe. Wenn man nur mit Handgepäck reist, muss man sich echt auf das Notwendigste konzentrieren und Teile mitnehmen, die zu Allem passen und mit denen man ein stimmiges Outfit von Kopf bis Fuss erstellen kann. Von daher sind klassische Teile in monochromen Farben der perfekte Begleiter auf Reisen. Und wie am Tag zuvor hatte ich auch wieder meine liebste, schwarze Jeans von Primark an. Da das Material so schon stretchig ist, sind sie so bequem wie Leggings. Ich würde sie wahrscheinlich sogar auf einem 10 Stundenflug tragen. Ein weiteres Essential aus meinem Kleiderschrank sind natürlich die Sneakers von Reebok, die ich ja schon vor langer Zeit bei Tk Maxx gefunden habe und ich glaube, auf fast allen Reisen dabei hatte. Auf die Schuhe kann ich mich einfach verlassen, denn sogar nach sooo vielen Kilometern, die wir in New York gelaufen sind, hatte ich nie Blasen oder sonst was.

Milan Day 2 - Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II

Right next to the milan cathedral on the Piazza Duomo, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is located, which is the most famous historical luxury-"shoppingmall". I'm always suprised, how falsely buildings are respresented in photos or videos in terms of their size. Because I've seen the Gallery many times in photos or on tv, but never thought, that it is so massive. The architecture is just beautiful with it's stucco and marble. Inside are only expensive shops like Prada and Versace, but if you have too much money, go for it!;)

If you walk through the gallery, you reach the Piazza della Scala, where the famous opera house is situated and which we didn't even notice that evening.

Direkt neben dem Dom befindet sich die historische "Shoppingmall" Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. 

Mich wundert immer wieder, wie sehr einen Fotos oder Videos doch in Bezug auf die Größe täuschen können, denn so riesig und massiv hatte ich sie mir nicht vorgestellt. Einkaufen kann man dort leider nichts, da sich dort nur Luxusgeschäfte befinden, aber der Bau ist trotzdem sehr schön anzuschauen mit seinen Stuckverzierungen, den Frescen und dem Marmorboden. Wenn man die Gallerie durchquert, erreicht mna auch schon die Piazza della Scala, an dem berühmten mailänder Opernhaus, welches uns an dem Abend überhaupt nicht aufgefallen ist.

Milan Day 2 - From castle to cathedral

Ciao! So many times I've heard, that Milan is an ugly city and after spending 2 days there, we were wondering, why the people have that opinion, because we thought, Milan is beautiful. Not only the mainsights are extremly pretty, but when you walk through the city, there are so many old, well preserved buildings everywhere. For me, it has a really noble, aristocratic flair. 
So after we visited Castello Sforzesco, we walked in the direction of the city centre and towards the Duomo. When we reached the Piazza Duomo, we were fascinated by the beauty and dimensions of the milan cathedral and the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, the luxury "shopping mall" which is right next to the cathedral.

Ich hatte früher so oft gehört, dass Mailand keine schöne Stadt sei, weshalb ich auch nicht allzu viel erwartet hatte. Umso überraschter und begeisteter war ich dann aber nach 2 Tagen dort, denn ich finde Mailand richtig schön. Überall alte Gebäude und ausreichend Grünflächen. 

Nach unserem kurzen Besuch im Castello Sforzesco sind wir dann weiter in Richtung Innenstadt und Dom gegangen. Auf der Karte sieht der Weg total weit aus, ist aber in weniger als 15 Minuten zu schaffen. Nicht nur die Hauptattraktionen, wie das Schloss oder der Dom sind sehenswert, auch die Straßenzüge sind gesäumt von alten, gut restaurierten und in der Nacht gut beleuchteten Gebäuden. Die Stadt strahlt ein fast aristochratisches, nobles Flair aus. Am Dom angekommen, waren wir direkt fasziniert von der Schönheit und den Ausmassen, sowohl des Domes selbst, als auch von der direkt daneben liegenden Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II., der weltbekannten Luxus"shoppingmall".
