Budapest - Some hours left

As I mentioned in some previous blogpost, we did Blindbooking again and originally our destination was Vienna. But we spontaneously took a bus to Budapest and so I didn't have much time to choose my must-see-sights. And we only had two full days, since our bus went back in the afternoon.

My boyfriend is a huge Bud Spencer fan and can you believe, that you find a Spencer statue in Budapest? Not really, but there is one in front of a shoppingmall, so of course we had to go there. Then we didn't have much time left and just made a small stop at the  Great Market Hall, actually just to find an ATM, but then also walked around for some minutes to find some souvenirs.

Da unser eigentliches Blindbookingziel Wien war, und wir spontan mit dem Bus nach Budapest gefahren sind, hatte ich nicht viel Zeit mir meine Must-See-Attraktionen herauszusuchen, bzw. hatten wir  insgesamt auch nur zweieinhalb Tage Zeit. Unser Bus zurück nach Wien fuhr am nachmittag und ein Must-See hatte mein Freund noch auf seiner Rechnung. Als großer Bud Spencer Fan musste er natürlich zu seiner Statue, die sich irgendwo vor einer Shoppingmall befindet und die ich erst am Abend durch Tripadvisor entdeckt hatte. Danach haben wir noch einen kurzen Stop in der  Markthalle gemacht. Eigentlich nur um einen Geldautomaten zu finden, aber einige Minuten bis zu unserer Busabreise blieben uns noch und wir haben uns noch kurz nach Sovenirs umgeschaut.

Budapest - Following the guy with the rucksack

Even though taking pictures is my favorite hobby, sometimes I wish, that my boyfriend would be behind the camera, so I would be in more of them too. Instead you mostly see him, often in the backround from behind, when I try to get some good shots and he is too impatient to wait.;) 

But let's continue with our walking tour: So after walking around the castle hill for some hours, we returned to the city center, crossing the Széchenyi Chain Bridge and then stopping at the beautiful St. Stephen's Basilica. Through Google Maps I found a huge shopping center near the Parliament, where I didn't take some pics, because we were in a hurry again. We stayed there until it was closing and then were searching for some nice restaurant. We were super indecisive as always, so we just went to a restaurant, which was near our apartment. But in terms of nightlife, Budapest has a lot more to offer than I expected. But since we had to catch a bus the next day to drive to Vienna, we couldn't party too much.:)

Auch wenn ich das Fotografieren liebe, wünschte ich doch manchmal. dass mein Freund sich hinter die Kamera begeben würde, so dass ich auch öfters auf den Fotos wäre.:) Ansonsten sieht man ihn dann natürlich auf jedem 2. Foto von hinten, wenn er man wieder zu ungeduldig ist  um zu warten bis ich meine Fotos fertig geknipst habe und ich dann hinterher rennen muss.:) Das zu meiner Überschrift... ;)

Aber lasst uns mit unserer Stadttour weitermachen: Nachdem wir einige Stunden auf dem Burgberg herumspaziert sind, haben wir uns dann wieder in Richtung Stadtzentrum begeben indem wir die Kettenbrücke überquert haben. Nach einem kurzen Stop in der wundervollen St.-Stephans-Basilikasind wir dann noch in eine Shoppingmall in der Nähe des Parlamentsgebäudes, die noch bis 21 Uhr geöffnet war. Danach waren wir natürlich total ausgehungert und konnten uns deshalb erst recht nicht für eine Bar entscheiden, so dass wir dann einfach in ein kleines Brauhaus gegenüber unseres Apartments gegangen sind. Nightlife-mäßig hat Budapest aber sonst mehr zu bieten, als ich erwartet habe, aber da es am nächsten Tag sowieso mittags mit dem Bus weiter nach Wien gehen sollte, konnten wir uns keine "Feier-eskapaden" leisten.:)

Budapest - Exploring the Castle Hill

The Castle Hill is probably one of the most famous sights of Budapest and the previous day we admired the impressive castle from the other side of the river and also walked to the base of the hill, but decided to return the next day, because it was already early in the evening. After the destruction of the castle during World War 2, the new gouvernment decided to rebuilt but modernise and simplify the interiors and exteriors. And to my dismay, even all the remaining interior, that was undamaged, including some beautiful elements from the baroque era, were destroyed. Only parts of the medieval castle were reconstructed. Now three museums are situated at the Buda Castle such as the Hungarian National Gallery, the the National Széchényi Library and the Budapest History Museum, I was interested in, but which was closed that day. So we just walked around, gazing at the squares, statues and buildings from the outside. Another building on the Castle Hill, which aroused our interest, is the  Fisherman's Bastion, a viewing terrace, with many stairs and walking paths, which looks like a castle from a fantasy movie. Even just for that view on the Danube River and the other bank side, it is worth going up the hill.

Das Burgviertel gehört wohl zu den wichtigsten Sehenswürdigkeiten Budapests und schon einen Tag zuvor haben wir die imposante Burg von der anderen Uferseite bestaunt bzw. sind dann auch zum Fuß des Berges gegangen, wobei wir uns dann entschlossen hatten, am nächsten Tag wiederzukommen, da es bereits früher Abend war. In der ehemaligen Burg befinden sich einige Museen, wie die Nationalgalerie, die Nationalbibliothek, sowie das Historische Museum der Stadt Budapest, welches mich interessiert hätte, an dem Tag aber geschlossen war. Also sind wir nur durch die Straßen und über die Plätze des Burgviertels geschlendert und haben die Gebäude von außen bewundert. Das Burgviertel ist ziemlich weitläufig, mit einigen Kirchen, Geschäften und Restaurants. Welches Gebäude uns aber auch sehr beeindruckt hat, ist die Fischerbastei, eine Aussichtsplattform, die eher wie ein Fantasyschloss aussieht. Aber auch alleine für die Aussicht auf die Donau und die andere Uferseite der Stadt lohnt sich ein Aufstieg.

Budapest [ Day 2 ] Outfits & Market (again)

On our way to the Castle Hill, we took the same route as the day before and walked through the Spring Market again. This time we just browsed around without buying anything, because the food was quiet expensive, nevertheless I got some outfit pics.;)

Since I'm a "jeans-girl",at least in spring, autumn and winter, I now try to buy just pairs with special details like embroideries, because often a "normal" pair looks a bit boring. These ones I found at Zara during the last sales.

Auf dem Weg zum Burgberg sind wir wieder die gleiche Strecke wie am Tag zuvor gegangen und natürlich wieder über den Frühlingsmarkt. Dieses Mal haben wir uns nur umgeschaut, denn die Preise sind echt happig, aber Outfitfotos sprangen bei dem kurzen Besuch doch noch raus.

Da ich fast immer Jeans trage, zumindest im Frühling, Herbst und Winter, diese ein Outfit aber nicht interessanter machen, kaufe ich nur noch welche, die besondere Details wie Stickereien oder Applikationen aufweisen. Dieses Paar habe ich im Zara-Sale ergattern können. 

Budapest [ Day 1 ] Spring Market & Outfits

We booked a small apartment near the city center, which was quiet inexpensive in Budapest and on our way to the Buda castle, we found a small spring market with lots of hungarian specialities on the Vörösmarty Square. And what is more convenient as a snack than a bratwurst?!;)

Wir hatten ein kleines AirBnB ganz in der Nähe der Innenstadt gebucht und auf dem Weg in Richtung Burgviertel sind wir auf einen Frühlingsmarkt auf dem Vörösmarty Square gestossen und konnten es uns nicht nehmen lassen, direkt etwas zu probieren. Und was dient besser als kleiner Snack als eine ungarische Bratwurst.;)

We were super late again, so we made a change of plan and wandered along the river to the Parliament, which is a stunning building and meanwhile took some outfit pics. Later we returned to the market to taste some more hungarian food.

Da wir mal wieder super spät dran waren, entschieden wir uns dann doch entlang des Flusses zum Parlamentsgebäude zu laufen und währenddessen ein paar Outfitfotos zu schießen. Danach sind wir dann wieder zum Markt zurückgekehrt um noch andere Köstlichkeiten auszuprobieren.

Budapest - Hungarian National Museum

Since I have already visited so many museums before, I would call myself a trained museum visitor. Since I have visited so many already, I can quiet easily compare those and rate them. Of course it is often just subjective, because everyone likes different things. But the National Hungarian Museum is the perfect example, that not only stunning exhibits make a good museum, but it is mainly how they are presented. 

But let's start with the beginning of our trip to Budapest, since we virtually arrived from Palermo.;)

Again we were super indecisive with our next destination, so we once more let a system make the decision: the Eurowings Blindbooking System. And so "they" chose Vienna for us.

Vienna has been on my bucketlist for quiet some time, because it is mainly influenced by the baroque era, which is one of my favorites. Since Budapest is near and the connection by bus between both cities is great, we chose to travel to Budapest first for two days. When we arrived in the early evening, we didn't do much, but the next day we directly went to the Hungarian National Museum near our hotel. If someone asked me for my recommendation, I would be unsure, because to be fair, I don't remember much of it, even when I edited the pictures, not many memories awoke. And of course that isn't a good sign. Maybe it is, because I didn't have much prior knowledge about the hungarian history, which is rather complex. But this ought to be the purpose of a museum. Putting the items on display into context and telling a story. The museum really has some awesome exhibits, but unfortunatelly they aren't presented in an ideal way. I would still propose to visit it, since this is just my personal opinion and maybe other people see things differently. My museum rating: 5,7/10

Bei den ganzen Museen die ich mittlerweile besucht habe, würde ich mich schon als "geübten Museumsgänger bezeichnen. Somit fällt es mir dann auch leicht, die Museen zu vergleichen und zu bewerten. Und das Ungarische Nationalmuseum in Budapest ist das perfekte Beispiel dafür, dass es nicht nur auf die Exponate ankommt, sondern vor allem auf die Präsentation.

Aber alles zum Anfang. Denn wir kommen virtuell ja gerade aus Palermo.;)

Da wir mal wieder unentschlossens waren, haben wir unsere Entscheidung wieder einem System überlassen und zwar dem Blindbookingsystem und heraus kam dieses Mal - Wien!

Wien wollte ich sowieso schon eine ganze Weile besuchen, da die Stadt sehr vom Barock geprägt ist und dieses Zeitalter (bekanntlich;) zu meinen Liebsten zählt. Aber da Budapest super easy mit dem Flixbus zu erreichen ist, haben wir vom Wiener Flughafen aus einen 2-Tagestrip dorthin unternommen. Als wir am frühen Abend dort ankamen, waren wir so müde, dass wir nicht mehr viel unternommen haben. Am nächsten Tag war unser erstes Ziel dann das Ungarische Nationalmuseum in der Nähe unseres Hotels. Wenn ich gefragt werden würde, ob ich das Museum weiterempfehlen kann, könnte ich dies nicht zu 100 Prozent befürworten, aber schlecht ist es deswegen nicht. Vielleicht sollte man sich ein wenig Vorkenntnisse zur ungarischen Geschichte anlesen, welche ich nicht hatte. Und da die Geschichte so komplex ist, hat man es schwer der Präsentation zu folgen. Das Lustige (oder eher Traurige) ist, dass ich mich noch kaum an irgendwas erinnern kann. Das Museum besitzt zwar super tolle Exponate, nur leider sind diese nicht optimal präsentiert.

Meine Museumsbewertung liegt somit bei 5,7 von 10 Punkten.
