Vienna - Museum of Fine Arts Pt.2

Today we continue with the second part of our visit at the Museum of Fine Arts and even more explanations of the exhibits, since I discovered the Google Arts Project. In my previous post I've shown you the egyptian and ancient collection and now you can take a look at amazing pieces from the Collection of Sculpture and Decorative Arts and the Picture Gallery featuring paintings from artists like Caravaggio, Raphael, Rubens and many more.

Heute geht es dann weiter mit dem zweiten Teil des Museums und noch mehr Erläuterungen unter den Kunstwerken, da ich das Google Arts Project entdeckt habe, welches noch bessere Erklärungen zu einigen Werken liefert. Nach meinem vorherigen Blogpost mit der Ägypten- und Antikensammlung folgt nun die Kunstkammer und die Gemäldegalerie.

Vienna - Museum of Fine Arts Pt.1

Already during our visit of the first hall of the Museum (of Fine Arts),the start of the egyptian collection, where we stayed at least one hour, we were super amazed. The building, which was built to gather the Habsburgs' collections in one place, is impressive from the outside and magnificent from the inside and an attraction in itself. No wonder it is considered one of the best museums worldwide, which i can confirm. It starts with the architecture and the premises, which are designed in compliance with the specific department. Then, of course you can see amazing exhibits, that are displayed perfectly with  great composition and lighting. I also have to praise the museums homepage, where you can almost find information about every piece of art and which i included in my blogpost, since I am curious myself and want to know more about the pieces I took pics of. So here is just part 1 with the ancient collection and links for more infos. (just in german, but I just discovered the Google Art Project, where you can also find infos about many of the pieces and the museum itself)

Schon während des Besuchs des Kunsthistorischen Museums, waren wir total begeistert und alleine in der ersten Abteilung der ägyptischen Sammlung verbrachten wir mehr als eine Stunde. Das Gebäude selber wurde zum Zweck der Zusammentragung der immensen Sammlungen der Habsburger gebaut und ist so imposant von Außen und so prunkvoll von Innen, dass es schon alleine deswegen einen Besuch wert ist.  Angefangen bei den Räumlichkeiten selber, die je nach Zeitalter oder Kategorie passend gestaltet sind, über die Zusammenstellung und die Beleuchtung der Objekte. Man hätte es nicht besser machen können. Ich muss außerdem die homepage des Museums loben, denn dort kann man noch mehr über die einzelnen Ausstellungsstücke nachlesen. Ich habe links zu den Infos unter den Fotos eingefügt, denn ich bin selber super neugierig, was ich denn da fotografiert habe.

Vienna Day 1 - Silver Chamber

So let's start with the museum marathon. On our first day we went to the Hofburg, the imperial palace of the Habsburgs, which houses the Imperial apartments, the Sisi museum and the silver collection. I was so excited, because I love old, historical buildings and interiors and then, after discovering that it is not allowed to take photos in the apartments and museum, I was a bit disappointed. The question is,Why? As long as you don't use flash, it won't be damaging.

 So since I didn't take pictures, I don't remember a lot of both sections. But at the Sisi Museum I learned a lot about Empress Elisabeth, because I didn't know anything about her. And in any case she was a super interesting personality. So at the museum (and later at the apartments) you can see many personal items and learn everything about her life and myth. And afterwards you directly enter the royal apartments, where you can see how she and her husband Franz Joseph I of Austria lived.

Nun lasst uns den Museumsmarathon beginnen. Am ersten Tag ging es zuerst zur Hofburg, die die Kaiserappartements, das Sisi Museum und die Silberkammer beinhaltet. Mit meiner Begeisterung für historische Gebäude und Einrichtungen habe ich mich natürlich super darauf gefreut und meine Euphorie wurde dann dadurch gebremst, dass dort keine Fotos erlaubt waren. Das verstehe ich nie, denn solange man nicht mit Blitz fotografiert, schadet dies doch den Objekten nicht. Und in den Zeiten von Instagram Fotografieren zu verbieten, nervt dann wahrscheinlich jeden 2. Dadurch kann ich mich jetzt auch noch kaum an die Appartements und das Museum erinnern. Natürlich waren diese trotzdem super interessant und da ich die Sisi Filme nicht kenne, wußte ich auch so gut wie nichts über sie und habe viel dazugelernt. In der Silberkammer konnte man zum Glück Fotos machen, was dann wenigstens ein kleiner Bonus war. 

Vienna - First impressions

We started in Budapest and after a short stop, we took the Flixbus to drive to Vienna, since this was our main destination. Our hotel was quiet in the center, so we wanted to take a short walk and look around, but a short walk always becomes a long walk, because the later it gets, the more we wake up. So we walked some kilometers, ate a Käsekrainer (sausage with cheese) and fascinated by all the illuminated buildings, we just continued walking. So we arrived at the St. Stephen's Cathedral and went to drink a (super expensive) cocktail nearby, since it was my boyfriends birthday.

Von Budapest sind wir nach einem kurzen Aufenthalt dann mit dem Flixbus nach Wien gefahren und da unser Hotel ziemlich im Zentrum lag, sind wir dann für einen "kurzen" Spaziergang losgezogen. Aus kurz wird bei uns dann immer super lang, da wir ,je später es wird, immer wacher werden. Und so haben wir spät abends noch die halbe Stadt durchkämmt und sind bis zum Stephansdom gewandert. Da es der Geburtstag von meinem Freund war, haben wir uns dann noch zur Feier des Tages einen (überteuerten) Cocktail gegönnt.

Budapest - Some hours left

As I mentioned in some previous blogpost, we did Blindbooking again and originally our destination was Vienna. But we spontaneously took a bus to Budapest and so I didn't have much time to choose my must-see-sights. And we only had two full days, since our bus went back in the afternoon.

My boyfriend is a huge Bud Spencer fan and can you believe, that you find a Spencer statue in Budapest? Not really, but there is one in front of a shoppingmall, so of course we had to go there. Then we didn't have much time left and just made a small stop at the  Great Market Hall, actually just to find an ATM, but then also walked around for some minutes to find some souvenirs.

Da unser eigentliches Blindbookingziel Wien war, und wir spontan mit dem Bus nach Budapest gefahren sind, hatte ich nicht viel Zeit mir meine Must-See-Attraktionen herauszusuchen, bzw. hatten wir  insgesamt auch nur zweieinhalb Tage Zeit. Unser Bus zurück nach Wien fuhr am nachmittag und ein Must-See hatte mein Freund noch auf seiner Rechnung. Als großer Bud Spencer Fan musste er natürlich zu seiner Statue, die sich irgendwo vor einer Shoppingmall befindet und die ich erst am Abend durch Tripadvisor entdeckt hatte. Danach haben wir noch einen kurzen Stop in der  Markthalle gemacht. Eigentlich nur um einen Geldautomaten zu finden, aber einige Minuten bis zu unserer Busabreise blieben uns noch und wir haben uns noch kurz nach Sovenirs umgeschaut.

Budapest - Following the guy with the rucksack

Even though taking pictures is my favorite hobby, sometimes I wish, that my boyfriend would be behind the camera, so I would be in more of them too. Instead you mostly see him, often in the backround from behind, when I try to get some good shots and he is too impatient to wait.;) 

But let's continue with our walking tour: So after walking around the castle hill for some hours, we returned to the city center, crossing the Széchenyi Chain Bridge and then stopping at the beautiful St. Stephen's Basilica. Through Google Maps I found a huge shopping center near the Parliament, where I didn't take some pics, because we were in a hurry again. We stayed there until it was closing and then were searching for some nice restaurant. We were super indecisive as always, so we just went to a restaurant, which was near our apartment. But in terms of nightlife, Budapest has a lot more to offer than I expected. But since we had to catch a bus the next day to drive to Vienna, we couldn't party too much.:)

Auch wenn ich das Fotografieren liebe, wünschte ich doch manchmal. dass mein Freund sich hinter die Kamera begeben würde, so dass ich auch öfters auf den Fotos wäre.:) Ansonsten sieht man ihn dann natürlich auf jedem 2. Foto von hinten, wenn er man wieder zu ungeduldig ist  um zu warten bis ich meine Fotos fertig geknipst habe und ich dann hinterher rennen muss.:) Das zu meiner Überschrift... ;)

Aber lasst uns mit unserer Stadttour weitermachen: Nachdem wir einige Stunden auf dem Burgberg herumspaziert sind, haben wir uns dann wieder in Richtung Stadtzentrum begeben indem wir die Kettenbrücke überquert haben. Nach einem kurzen Stop in der wundervollen St.-Stephans-Basilikasind wir dann noch in eine Shoppingmall in der Nähe des Parlamentsgebäudes, die noch bis 21 Uhr geöffnet war. Danach waren wir natürlich total ausgehungert und konnten uns deshalb erst recht nicht für eine Bar entscheiden, so dass wir dann einfach in ein kleines Brauhaus gegenüber unseres Apartments gegangen sind. Nightlife-mäßig hat Budapest aber sonst mehr zu bieten, als ich erwartet habe, aber da es am nächsten Tag sowieso mittags mit dem Bus weiter nach Wien gehen sollte, konnten wir uns keine "Feier-eskapaden" leisten.:)
