One Evening in Florence - Day 1

Years ago, when I was in Florence with my sister for the first time, we were really underwhelmed with the nightlife the city had to offer or rather didn't had to offer. We walked around for hours without findind a nice bar, not to mention a club. We ended up having Pizza at a Restaurant and fortunatelly the owners showed us an almost hidden bar. Nowadays times have changed and there are plenty of locations in Florence. We first went to Reverse, which also turns into a club on some days, but we wanted to save our energy for the next sightseeing-marathon-day, so we went to another Pub at Piazza San Giovanni, the Move On. A bit overpriced, but you have the nice view onto the florentine cathedral.

Florence Day1 - Piazza della Signoria to Ponte Vecchio

After we spent several hours inside Palazzo Vecchio, we started to walk around again to enjoy the last rays of sunshine. The Palazzo is situated right next to the Uffizi Galleries, which are located right on the waterfront of the river Arno and just a few steps away from Ponte Vecchio. I think this is one of the best places to enjoy the sunset, because the reflection of the golden light on water is always beautiful, isn't it?!

Florence Day 1 - Palazzo Vecchio

I already visited the Palazzo Vecchio some years ago, when I went to Florence for the first time, but I don't remember much. Maybe because my sister and I weren't super enthusiastic about the Renaissance era and more interested in the ancient times and  the Baroque architecture at that time. The baroque style is all about displaying splendour, whereas the Renaissance is a bit more rustic.
The Palazzo Vecchio is definitely one of the main attractions in Florence and because my boyfriend hasn't been there, I couldn't remember anyways, the Palazzo Medici Riccardi was closed that day and I wasn't dressed appropriately to visit the Cathedral, this had to be our destination for our first day.
When the palazzo was built in the late 13th century, it first served as the city parliament's headquaters and later became the Medici's gouvernment palace. Even today it is used as Florence's town hall and on the day of our visit a political meeting took place at the Hall of the Five Hundred, the most impressive hall in Palazzo Vecchio. On the second floor you can visit the magnificent Medici appartments, decorated with fresco paintings. And there is another highlight, which is the tower, where you have the most amazing view over Florence. This was a tip we got and I would totally recommend. We first thought about visiting the Giotto tower, which is also a main attraction and right next to the cathedral. But we were told, that the tower at Palazzo Vecchio is nearly as high as the Giotto tower and even offers longer opening hours.

Welcome to Florence & Outfits

We were in Rome "just" because Blindbooking has sent us there. Since we have visited the city many times, it wasn't supposed to be on our "travel-agenda", but even if you have seen everything, there is always something new. But we decided to stay in Rome just for 2 days and then travel to Florence, because I have only been there one time some years ago. Because it isn't that far away, it just took us 2 hours by train.
After our check in at the hotel, my first destination was the nearby Palazzo Medici Riccardi, which was already closed, but we could still visit the beautiful courtyard and small garden. In any case every corner of Florence is picturesque and even more beautiful on a sunny day, so you can just walk around for hours. Since Florence isn't huge, all the sights are quickly reachable on foot.
Our next stop was the Florence Cathedral or Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Flower. Seeing the buildings from outside is already breathtaking and a highlight and we couldn't visit the cathedral, because I wasn't dressed appropriately that day, so we had to postpone it. So we walked to the cities next famous 'piazza', the Piazza della Signoria and the Palazzo Vecchio, which I already visited years ago, but can't remember precisely. But to begin with, some 'first impressions'.

Rome Day 2 - Hadrian's Villa

After our visit at Hadrian's Villa, my boyfriend and I were on the same page, that this place should be featured in every guidebook of Rome. Strangely enough, that I haven't heard of it before or maybe heard of it, but didn't remember. And even stranger, that it isn't marketed in a larger way. Only this year I stumbled upon it on Tripadvisor, even though we have already visited Rome many times. If you want to visit Rome's surrounding area, I would recommend skipping Ostia antica and rather visit Villa Adriana, because it is more spectacular and better preserved. If you don't go by car and need to use public transportation, it isn't super easy to go there, because you have to change one time. In our case it was like a little adventure in itself, because we took the bus and had to change at the bus station Ponte Mammolo on the outskirts of Rome. The bus station is a bit rundown and we continued our travel in an old bus, where almost everything fell apart. I suggest to take the train to Tivoli station, what we did on our return trip to the roman city center.
To speak about the site itself, it is really extensive and I think we spent at least 4 hours there. Once again we had to hurry not to miss the last bus. A definite highlight is the Canopus, a pool which is surrounded by statues and collumns at the northern side. It is a great photo location and at the time we have been there, they also filmed something for italian Tv. And when I saw the trailer for "All the money in the world", I also recognized some spots.
But like I always say, pictures say more than 1000 words...;)

Rome Day 2 - Tivoli Outfits

Since we visited Rome a lot of times, we wanted to get away from the city center and discover something new. So I went on my favorite travel website Tripadvisor and searched for some sights nearby and discovered this huge archaeological site of Villa Adriana. Luckily the climate in Rome is great and even one time, some years ago, when we went there in November, it was too hot to wear a jacket.:) So I was able to wear a dress I found at New Yorker month before that trip, which reminded me of Dorothy Gale from The Wizard of OzGingham print was super trendy last year and still is this year, but no matter what, I love that print, especially when it comes in pastel colours.

Rome - Day 2 - From Vatican to the Spanish Steps

Because we have already been to Rome 4 times, we didn't have any specific destinations on our agenda. But the city is just beautiful and every corner is pleasing  the eye, so just walking around is already fun and you can literally breath in history. So we just started walking from the Vatican to the historic center with short stops at Piazza Navona, Largo Argentina, Colosseum, Piazza Venezia, Trajan's Forum, Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps.
